Performance at Charmers Cafe

Charmers Cafe 1500 W. Jarvis Avenue Chicago, IL. 60626

Sunday, October 9th, 2011 - 3pm

Eliza Rickman's unique and haunting sound combines the lilting sweetness of popular vocalists like Feist or Annie Clark with the gritty sensibilities of PJ Harvey and the playfulness of Kurt Weill.

Eliza recorded her first full-length effort this past winter with Chicago-based engineer Mark Greenberg (Andrew Bird, Wilco, Mavis Staples). It was funded by a wildly successful Kickstarter campaign during her nationwide spring tour,... when over $12k were raised (out of a $6k goal). The album is anticipated for release in the fall of 2011, and highlights Eliza's talent for writing string arrangements, and includes contributions from percussionist Kevin O'Donnell (Andrew Bird's 'Bowl of Fire') & bassist Tom V. Ray (Neko Case, Jakob Dylan).

Two stunning music videos were made in 2010 with Mindfruit Films for songs off her toy piano-based EP, 'Gild the Lily' (2009). The first video ("Cinnamon Bone") was completed in the spring, and is a reverse effect, slow motion short film about a young woman reliving her heartbreak through the seasons. All effects for the video were analog only, and this unique concept landed "Cinnamon Bone" a spot at 2011's SXSW Film Festival. A stop-motion video for "Black Rose" was released six months later.

More about Eliza Rickman HERE.

Successful Unifying Rogers Park event strengthens local chamber

The Rogers Park community united for success.

Signing nineteen Rogers Park Chamber of Commerce membership certificates.

We are working together so that businesses can survive these difficult economic times in Rogers Park.

I was recently asked "What is your most important role in the Rogers Park community?"

I thought about the many organizations that I am currently a part of including the Willye B. White Park Advisory Council, The Rogers Park/West Ridge Historical Society, the Alden Village North Advisory Council and my efforts with the Citizens for the Adelphi Theater non-profit organization. I replied, "I think that I have accomplished the most good for our community as President of the Rogers Park Chamber of Commerce".

Founding the Rogers Park chamber has been an inspiring labor of love. All of the board members are small business owners or heads of local organizations. We are volunteers who in the best interest of our community, devote our time to preserving great local businesses and boosting Rogers Park business through any means possible. During our recent Unifying Rogers Park event, we connected businesses with clients and encouraged business owners to be vocal about their role in our community. The purpose of this event was

To introduce and refer our community to its local businesses and service organizations. To unify our efforts, to guide businesses, service organizations and individuals to establish new businesses and promote existing businesses within the Rogers Park community.

We feel strongly about and believe in our organization. We personally walk our neighborhood to visit every business in Rogers Park on a regular basis. If a struggling mom-and-pop shop needs a fundraiser, If a transporation hub or storefront needs to be cleared of snow, The Rogers Park Chamber of Commerce represents and supports Rogers Park business.
