Labor Day holiday closings

Monday is Labor Day, a national holiday honoring American workers and the symbolic start of fall. The following public services will be affected:
Schools: All public schools in Chicago and surrounding suburbs will be closed. Visit your local school district's Web site for more information.
Government offices: All city, county, state and federal offices will be closed.
Postal service: No regular mail pickup or delivery, except for Express Mail. Most post offices will be closed.
Courts: Federal, state and county courts will be closed.
Banks: Closed.
Financial markets: Closed.
Transit: Metra (metrarail.com), Pace (pacebus.com) and CTA (transitchicago.com) will operate on limited Sunday schedules. The CTA also will re-route 15 buses through 6 a.m. Wednesday for a taping of "The Oprah Winfrey Show" on Michigan Avenue.
Waste pickup: Trash normally collected Mondays will be picked up Tuesday.
Beaches: Last day of the season for several beaches along Lake Michigan, including in Chicago.
Libraries: All Chicago Public Library branches will be closed. Outside Chicago, check with your local library.
Parking: Meters must be fed.
